Over the last 20 years, the bookkeeping profession has evolved in leap and bounds.  We have gone from manually entered data through a series on day books to now cloud based accounting software allowing us to process that same information but paper-free, more time efficient and saving money. Magic, isn’t it?

But what hasn’t changed, is that a good understanding of the golden rule of accounting for  double entry bookkeeping where everything must balance, is still required.  This is the pure underpinning principle that every bookkeeper must understand to enable them to be effective and efficient.  No matter how good the software is, without this clear understanding, then things can go wrong.
